Default 93 SC factory antenna works... but won't fully go down - motor or sensor issue?

I've been scouring through threads to find someone with a similar issue in an SC or LS but I've turned up short. I know a lot of folks prefer to change this thing out for any number of stubby antenna conversions but I want to keep mine original if possible.

Just a couple of days ago I noticed that when the aerial goes up, it seems to stop HARD. When I shut off the radio and it goes down, it stops with about five inches of mast still sticking up and again the sound at the back seem less precise than before this issue. However, I do NOT hear grinding internally that would suggest plastic gear damage.

Does this sound like an issue with the motor, relay or perhaps a sensor that tell the relay when the mast is fully up or down?

My SC's antenna motor assembly is probably original but I did replace the mast/cord with a new factory part a few years ago.

Thanks all!
