Default SC400 midpipe - cat?

Hi all,

I just picked up a 92 SC400 yesterday. I Googled a couple pics online and from what I saw there is a post cat or a muffling piece at the front portion of the Y-pipe. Is this in fact a cat? I want to have the exhaust changed over to a true dual system with an X pipe for the crossover but I don't want to have to deal with smog issues if it is cat.
