98 VVTI ECU Issue
Hi guys I have a 98 sc300. I recently did a full maintenance on it. Once I was done I started the car to make sure It was in time and all that. fired perfect. Put coolant in the car and went to bleed the system. The car would not start. I then noticed that I have no check engine light on the dash board with the key in the ready position. in the past that has told me that the the ecu had gone bad. I opened it up looking for a bad capacitor and did not find any. Has anyone experienced this and if so any luck having it rebuilt?

You can sell that car to me and your headaches gone... lmaol.
check Craigs, there is a green 1999 sc300 being parted out in Stockbridge . They might sell the ecu cheap.

hey lo, did you make sure that the 10AMP fuse (gauge) is good and that check engine light bulb is good ? That is the circuit that goes to pin 6 (W) of connector E on your ECU which is responsible for switching on the check engine light the moment you turn the ignition key on. . But regardless, that is just an indicator. Even if they are bad , they won't stop the car from starting. Your ECU is more likely the culprit based on what you told me on the phone.

I have verified all fuses are good. I put the ecu from my 2000 sc in and the check engine light DOES come on. The car will turn over but not start thought. I put my 2000 key close to the immobilizer box as well. Still nothing. An I am not selling out the car. Hell No. Your wife will kill me if I did.
P.S. I called about the edu and the did not want to look at the part# on the ecu for me either. Is there any information that will tell me the difference in the ECU's

hahaha... she gave me that look yesterday when I told her that I am towing Rey's white 5speed hard top to our place.
With both 1998 and your 2000 ECU from the other SC300 , did the car even crank ? If yes, then the immobilizer is not an issue cause that theft deterrent controls the starter relay...so if it crank then that immobilizer is not an issue.
Trying to compare 1998-2000 diagrams now... so far , after 3 pages, I don't see any difference.

should be the same unless its a cali model but by that year I think they all had the same emissions stuff on them so it should have worked. what is odd is that your 2000 ecu is not starting the car. did you pushing down the pedal some while starting, it can help clear out some fuel if the old ecu was bad and overfueling but normally its the non vvti ecu's that have bad caps but it could happen. not even sure if those cars pushing down the pedal even cracks the throttle body due to it being electronic but worth a try.
