Hey I was wondering if the 1jz and 2jzge flywheels are interchangeable? Have access to that flywheel a lot cheaper than ordering a 1jz one online

The two are interchangeable but what dictates which flywheel you should use is your transmission. If you are running a r154 then you need a 1jz flywheel and if you are using a w58 then you'll need the 2jzge flywheel.

The R154 1jz flywheel has a different pattern on it for the pressure plate than the w58 2jzge flywheel.
The R154 uses toyota's push pattern of clutch covers, and the w58 uses the pull pattern of clutch covers.
You cannot use a w58 flywheel on a r154 or vice-versa generally speaking.
Both flywheels however, do bolt up to the engine the same.

That is correct. Although, what I have done is got the 1jz lightweight flywheel and used a w58 clutch that are both used in my setup. The whole thing with making a setup like this work is that you have to drill and tap bolt holes in your flywheel. Mine is aluminum, so not that bad really. Also the only reason I went this route is because I plan on switching to a R154 as soon as I can find one off a 1jz and figured I'd just get the right flywheel for it. Hope this helps.

So I just got a Soarer R154 and I need a flywheel. Previous owner of the R154 who was 1j said he had a lightweight flywheel and noticed good power gains with the lightweight. Ive heard that lightweight flywheels will actually increase the length of time for the turbo to spool. Im on 2j and im not sure if I should buy a lightweight which is cheaper or keeping looking for a stock flywheel.

SOLID, the trouble is finding a non-lightweight OEM 1JZ R154 flywheel, although they are out there if you look hard enough. The aftermarket FW's are easier to locate and obtain (and in some cases cheaper) than an OEM 1JZ R154 FW. An alternative might be the JUN chromoly steel R154 JZ lightweight flywheel. DM has a specific one they keep in their inventory. Fizanda I'd generally avoid all around.

I went with an OEM (1JZ) flywheel and it revs out just fine for me with no turbo on a 4.27 rear gear. Should rev just fine on a GTE too. I think track cars benefit most from lighter weight flywheels.

hey guys Thanks for the replies I heard that the engagement was different and this confirms it. I think i may have found a 1jz flywheel finally. now to find a bellhousing lol
