Default Cant pass emission or get idle down. Help Please Anyone!

Hello, I have a 92 sc400 which I purchased almost 3 years ago. And have driven it half of that time. It now is my daily driver which I am not doing. Bumming rides and public transpo at this point. But since purchasing it I have been able to pass emission each time without a problem when the car had less work put in to it. this time no go which thought was thing.

Hi NO was what failed test. Changes from last year test to now.

new plugs ngk $9 a piece SMH and expensive autoline pro series or something $130 bucks all I know.
Sub 02 sensors $129 a piece.SMH man I just wanted a good running car. had problem with
coolant resealed but changed coolant(hmm) buddy changed it from red to green. tank was leaking
prior. OH also had busted rack and pinion. Reman rack now. but now pressure hose leaking fluid. grabbed one from junkyard that is leaking fluid or did he replace rack wrong or not securely some
where. drips down at the hose connectors at lowest point.

about a year and half ago close to 2 I had highly referred guy that all that lexus tech shops use in area to rebuild ecu. ran ok noticed lil difference. Still big thump (driveshaft I think) but actually did brind codes that were not originally there code 71 so cleaned egr and it went away. No more codes. Still had leaking power steering hose (being told), rear main seal became worse, a high idle surging in park and neutral, could no longer drive it and had no money for it. PARKED IT!

do have new coil on top not
on lower pass side. new temp coolant sensor
cleaned out throttle body carb cleaner
looks good

since then, saw great thread which not sure if can post here
but it outlined working on
the iacv/maf/tps

showed how to test with digital meter
lol waste of my time.

grabbed couple iacv and maf and tps from
the yard. lucky quite a few come in.

cleaned the iacv free of carbon and oiled
them no change

tried different maf's no change

tried different tps no change
could not get multimeter to read a signal
stayed with open circuit.
no luck with feel gauge placement

I towed to a lexus tech in area

had thing for a week.
said was because I told him strapped for
cash. So did not wanna put whole bunch of time
in to it charging by hour and all. had to work around
other cars with only one sc400 "experienced tech SPECIALIST"

after finally getting word on car they tell me ecu
not reading good. Says that must be issue. sd they
have a tech that does it for $500 to reprogram.

I advise will call person that reprogrammed it few months ago.
Turns out same person who did mine was same person
they would refer me to. So after the all the b.s. I was out
of another $200 cause they same I Had a california spec ecu
in the vehicle. And he placed correct model in. But how
he did not know that on the first time still screams B>S

the surging went away and the idle is still high
around 1100 rpm and creeps to 1200 once warmed up?

Since then did emission and failed.
Given no recommendation or possible
problem options by emission comp

Did research on the forums
heard wires could be issue and vac leaks
not sure how the vac leaks work
everything looks fine.

something said let me jump terminals
to see if got any engine codes
because have no cel on.

jumped to read codes and got
codes 25 and 26

replaced brittle hoses around p/s
reservoir. still not sure where leak down
bottom coming from.

replaced plug wires that changed a year ago and
tried re gapping plugs

placed new dist and rotor on driver side only
pass was too difficult couldnt locate other bolts

lastly placed new universal main 02
sensors in. Believed did the
connections correctly.

took neg battery cable off over night

jumped it and codes were gone
continuous blink on the cel light?
read that mean codes cleared
I hope.

seemed ok when started it up

seemed lil calmer but same
high idle around 1100 rpm

tags are expired now.

so feeling great after all the recent work
this gonna pass right! nnngggghhh

Now been to this emission place 4 times
only one over here with dyno set up.

and let it run like 20 minutes
before that though
cleaned and lubed iacv which
always seems to idle it down
for a minute until it sets after a couple
start up. so it had correct idle and
rode it like that.

Emission guy stopped it halfway thru stating looking like gonna
fail and being its the free follow up test he did not wanna
waste it so he stopped for me. Told me see what I
need to do and bring back and is still free Damn
thing $25 bucks I am $50 in with.

Ready to scream people. not sure what next to do.

4 tps all cant be bad?? do I pay some one to test calibrate it?

3 iacv? cleaned and move up and down when they]
are connected but unscrewed and turn engine on.

no change with mafs

did not replace the plugs as plugs where new
a year ago plus no money but they do
have warranty advanceauto hates right
about now. love taking my money though.

codes gone so 02 sensors
should be good.

Guy who dropped tranny to replace seals
says cats look ok.

so plugs?
cats?
accelerator pedal linkage?
tps?
another ecu?
vac leaks?

Any help or ideas are greatly accepted and appreciated.
Especially appreciate anyone who reads this rant about
my marriage to this vehicle. would love a happy one
instead of divorcing this B!^+(H!

Thanks in advance.

I think it might be your cat if its old. It should not be hard to pass emissions in a 92 but then again im not sure about your state.

you check your throttle cables they may be too tight......check bronze egr pipe going from intake to exhaust....check coolant temp sensor.have you put any additives in your gas?

moved to the correct sub forum.
so you have a high idle, what is it at when cold and when warmed up.
if its not idling down when warm it could be the coolant sensor even.
Hi Nox means you are running lean. what are the other 2 numbers?
we would need all 3 to even guess whats really going on.

Thanks for reply. when cold it is 1100rpm and when warms up it raises to 1200rpm.
I have replaced engine temp sensor a lil over a month ago.
the emissions I had done twice 12/19 was 2119/2525 on 1/10 after replacing a couple
vac lines/ rear main seal NO readings 1804/1808
HC 106/ CO .39/NO 1804/CO+CO% 15.3/RPM 1519.'

Thanks Ali

Replace the PCV calve. Costs $4. Could very well be the cause of your vacuum leak.
Will do.... New to posting. actually a lil intimidated because know so lil about vehicle.
Apologize to everyone. Thank you for reply mage

Thanks for reply. I have checked them and they did not seem tight. actually a lil play in them. Have not put any additives in gas. and will try to locate the egr pipe you are referencing. And reply back.

Thanks big white. I was not sure how to check for vac leak. I read if spray water with spray bottle over vac lines and engine if there was a leak it would cause some type of engine change or hesitation. And there was no change.

Thank you for reply mike.

I have been thinking that as well. with so much $ placed. really need to trouble shoot before doing that I think. Being told they "LOOK" good and with previous pass on emissions not sure yet.

Thanks for reply,
vacuum modulator filter was dirty and will replace.
not sure where to place seafoam,
not hearing any hissing
or something that make believe is vac leak

Have you checked the EGR valve? It, too, has the potential to cause the symptoms you describe.
Ok thanks Mage. will look for that, And been about a year since cleaned egr, may need to do that as well, thanks again
