Default Which trans to choose?

Hey CL,

I recently got rid of my is300 and picked up a sc300 (1992). I started to put together my new setup which includes:

JDM GTE Head(stock)
GE bottom end with gte pistons and rods.
Greddy style intake manifold/q45 TO
DOC race turbo manifold
Bullseye S372
Virtual works race intercooler
Twin 30mph pump on modified stock hanger

Car will be DD on pump 95% of the time. For this reason I am shooting for 5-600 hp max.
This car will never see the track as the closest one is 3 hours away. This car will just see some highway pulls and spirited driving.

This brings me to my question:
I currently have a w58 with a comp stage 2
I have a r154 in my garage and a modified pressure plate with sliders.

I am not far from having everything to do the r154 swap but this cd009 swap looks promising also. Being that I am seeking such low power number and this car will see no track time what (in your experience) would be my best option for this car.

P.S. Diff is factory sc300 open manual diff

Well a v160 would be the best bet because you can get all new, for me I dont trust a old r154, you will end up spending the money one way or another in the end.
why not just do it right? I think its worth the extra for a new one. go with a low gear diff like a 220mm 3.13.
total for all new rear end is 13k

im half way to a full swap GTE v160

good luck in your build, hope it all works out for you

Not sure what the sliders are on the r154 but since you already have one If you build that with some marlin crawler parts you can handle 500-600 no problem.

I vote R154 since you already have one and it's the cheapest to fit in with OEM parts. The CD009 swap is still being worked out but it's viable. V160's are of course great transmissions but for 500-600hp a built R154 with a 3.77 or 3.92 final drive will do just fine.
