Hey Guys, I would like to say thank you for the help you guys have provided me over the last couple years with my 1995 LEXUS SC400. I will one day own another Lexus, but as for now... unfortunately.... I got pit-maneuvered by an inattentive driver @40mph, jumped a curb and landed on top of the fence.

According to insurance, it is totaled.

Which brings me to my next ordeal, insurance. I can own a "parts only" title for $308.50

The reason why I am leaning towards keeping the car ( perfectly drivable )

.. is I have new tires ( less than 3 months old)

In the last three years I have replaced....

Brake master cylinder, alternator, right rear brake caliper, all new brake rotors, spark plugs, plug wires, both distributors, all new brake pads, radiator, power steering pump, water pump, timing belt.... had motor checked for compression 12 months ago and it was 180psi+ across the board....

should I keep the car and part it out? Seem it is worth more than $308.00 salvage ya know??

Car only has 126,000 on the clock.....Front leathers in good condition... what do yall think?

Motor is strong, tranny strong, no CEL..... Just outside damage is too much for a '95

lemme know....

BTW, IT STILL TRACK STRAIGHT

hands down the toughest vehicle I have ever driven, period.

I did the same thing in my dad's 1999 M3 ( that time was my fault ) when I was in high school... snapped the axle on the curb.. this thing? UP and OVER. lol.

You should do just that, keep it & part out what you don't want, keep some parts for your next SC.

If the parts are good, the best thing to do IMO is to part it all out, since good SC parts fetch top dollar.

If it still drives straight and nothing's wrong with it, cough up the $300 and daily the beater and get yourself something else nice for the weekends.

I wanted to keep driving it as a daily, but in order to "keep" the vehicle, it will have to be declared a total loss, and my previously clean title will be turned in for the $$$, and a "parts only" title will be issued to me should I choose to deduct the $308.50 from their "payout".

I would imagine it is worth 300 in parts either way. I would take it back for parts, but you will need time and space for that especially since you can't drive it, but you could always get it, take off all the good parts, and then call someone to take it to the yard.

I am always down on parting out these SC's, especially if 1997 or newer. Most sought after parts.

title
Soflo, My take on this is: you don't need a title to keep driving your car thats legally titled to you already.
You may have to put just liability insurance on it with another company.
You cannot sell it to someone else for anything other than parts with a parts title.

Here in Texas you can drive salvage title cars all day. Pretty sure it should be the same there. I figure the title notation is to possibly protect the next possible buyer to let them know the car has been rebuilt. For $308 it'd be totally worth it to look into this.
