400 is misfiring
OK. My 400 has been running great. Changed the oil and washed her. Took he out for a drive. was slowly riding through my neighborhood and everything seem find. Pulled up to a stop sign and it started to misfire. Actually I mean it feels like a plug has fouled. Shouldn't a fouled plug clear up and start firing after the car gets to running temp. Also do you think it will throw a code even though there is no CEL light

It can throw a code and not light up the cel light. Trying the 12v fuel pump ecu mod, if that doesn't work then check your sparkplugs and wires. If all seems good then either google sc4 misfire or google the definitive guide to sc400 hesitation, a thread here on cl. On mobile so cant search.

Durps, thanks for responding. I have done the 12v mod. checked the plugs and blew everything out with air. I'm thinking the timing belt may have slipped a tooth or two.

UPDATE: Pulled the plugs and found significant water in the next to last plug on the passenger side. Cleaned the plug, blew out the cylinder and put things back together. All good again.

yeah I was going to say its prob from the wash or 1 of the 2 coilpacks went out. good thing you found it, its actually harder to get water on the plugs when washing the v8 versus the I6 but it happens from time to time.
for the future you aren't supposed to wash down fuel injected toyota engines at all.
Really causes more bad than good, I only wipe and brush and dry, and if water has to go anywhere in the bay, everything important gets covered with a plastic bag or towel, but thats only if a real mess has happened.
