Default Just installed my R154 and having problems

Ok CL i need your help. I installed my r154 tranny and it does not want to go into reverse. When i had the tranny out it went into all the gears fine. I installed a new clutch line and try bleeding it the best i can but something tells me thats the problem. I did not do the whole shifter extension thing yet because i wanted to make sure the tranny was good. So i currently have the old shifter from my w58 in there.

O/D light flashing? Check simple first, like electrical connectors, shifter cable, ect. Could you expand on the "shifter thing"? If you swapped an incompatible shifter into the R134, that's what could happen. I assume your trans had no problems before this...so no broken bands (intermediate, reverse) or undertorqued valve body?

Hope you get it working right.

How much fluid did you put in? 3.2 or so? I also think it is the wrong shifter, not allowing the shifter to fully allow the gears to go into reverse. Thats just an educated guess.

Be nice Roger. You know I will prank call you. LOL

Get the correct shifter and post back your findings.

I just posted some guesses here but I've taken them out now. So wait... it's not because of a damaged spring and pin mechanism in the tailshaft that enables reverse (he never opened the gearbox and it shifted perfectly when it was out) and it's not because he has a non-extended shift housing, causing him to hit bits of his console, or is that it in a nutshell?

I was under the impression that the SC300 W58 swan-neck shifter was virtually identical to the Soarer R154 swan-neck shifter. This, assuming he's not using an MKIII W58 shifter. If he had a Soarer extended housing or a customized one (@ 1.125" farther back before the shifter goes in) his W58 shifter should work correctly.

w58 and r154 are same ****.. i have modified w58 shifter with 2" added to it works perfect and no the throw is not longer.. try going into 3rd first then go into reverse.. will it go into reverse with the car off? not with car on? lmk what happens.. shifter thing should not be causing that..
