KA24DE Trans on SC400?
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and picking up my first 92 SC400 on Saturday. It has 93k miles and is currently owned by a 50-60 year old man, it's in great shape!
I come from a strong background of S13/S14's, been working on them for as long as I can remember. In an S-Chassis, you can swap in the 1UZFE and use the KA24DE transmission with an adapter plate from swap1uz.com...My question is, in an SC400, if you use that same adapter plate, with a KA24DE tranny, will the shifter line up with the hole in the chassis, or is there some sort of linkage/adapter needed? And what driveshaft would you need to run - custom?
I know that this swap is possible because I have seen a few videos on youtube. If we can get more information about this, the cost to make an SC400 manual would be dramatically reduced in cost...
Any info on this?

This is quite intriguing & I'm curious to see what transpires with this, just as with the 350z tranny swap. Always nice to see people thinking out of the box and bringing new ideas and discussion to the community. Congrats on your pick up. Sounds like a beauty. Please post pics when you have them available. And as always... Welcome!
I haven't heard anyone here done that swap. Only W58, R154, and V160.
Measure your KA trans from that said adapter to the shifter, I might able to tell you where its going to sit.
I'm in a process of collecting parts of Aisin AR5 trans or Solstice, pretty much like R154 but shifter is longer and it will sit close to the cup holder. I already have a fix for that!

if you wanted a trans thats can gonna hold the hp but keep cost down, the z32 TT transmission is the happy medium for sure, a lot of sr20 and ka-t guys end up swapping to that if they want big power.
meh, only the 6 speed had any issues really, the 5 speed was great for over 500...

Anyway, it sounds like the KA24DE 5-speed can take a fair beating to a point. I'm curious as to how it stacks up against the Toyota W58.
