yup it is a pita. tackled the bottom starter bolt for at least half and hour. Make sure you have a wrench with a flexible head

I talked to a lexus tech before i did mine, notch the 2 bolts that moun the starter on the side facing the front of the engine.
this way you can spin them out with a screw diver once you get them broken loose. thats how the techs do it.
Trust me, its a pain in the *** to try and spin them out with a wrench.
They said they get paid i think 5 hours and they could do them in 30 min.

Even if he is, it's actually not a bad idea for the 400 with the way the bolts are situated. I found that the passenger side bolt was faily easy to remove, but the driver side bolt required smal amount of contortion to get the wrench on. I purchased the snap-on(bluepoint) ratcheting crowfoot wrench, but never used it. Removing the rear water bypass opens up a lot of room to maneuver, but space is still pretty tight. I could see a lexus tech getting it done in minimal time, but 30 minutes for the whole job definitely sounds like the 300 over the 400 considering what has to be removed.

...here's what you have to take off to get to the starter on the 400:

Try Toyota dealers that need service business. I got my best timing belt quote from one in NYC.

By best quote I actually meant best "price". Smaller shops asked around a grand for t-belt/w-pump/seals etc..
Toyota quoted me 550$
Couldn't believe it.

My Mechanic here is going to charge me like 350, i have the parts coming, but he hasn't given me a starter price yet. I already know i was going to spend money on this car so im ok with it.
