Default 1997 SC300 auto trans issues??

Recently picked up a 1997 SC300 165k.

The trans or drivetrain is making a whirring - mechanical sound from the trans area under load/acceleration until about 20+ mph. It gets louder with acceleration.

Car pulls good shifts smooth, no jerking in and out of any gears.
Just had the trans flushed / asked them to drop the pan

sound is still there not sure what it is.

service or replace?
I've looked around and I can find a few JDM autos in my area..
what options/trans will fit if I need to replace
soarer?
aristo?

I've considered a 5sp swap but not sure if budget will allow at the moment...

any help/thoughts would be appreciated...

It could be a chipped 1st gear. Usually it wouldnt affect performance and if it's just until 20mph then it's probably just the first gear.

A swap wouldnt be necessary but if you do there are many other threads about a manual swap, check em out.
