Default SC400 92-97 engine swap to 98-00

Does anyone know if a 98-00 engine will bolt to a 1997 trans?

Or,
Can a 98-00 engine AND trans cleanly swap into a 1997? Other than the shifter-gate are there any other major components that don't match?

My beloved '97 RSP now has over 240k and I an starting to consider options.

Thanks.
M

you may want to go with the whole engine and trans if possible, the trans is a newer design and the line pressure I think is controlled by the ecu. however the older one should "bolt up" (they all have the same bell housing pattern) and you can just lock the line pressure (attached to the throttle body), but not sure how happy the ecu will be about that. It could work, but usually one would prefer to get the whole engine, trans and ecu package together.

lots of things can cleanly swap into an SC. You should look into doing the engine trans and ecu together on this one, but there are more veteran v8 guys on here who can correct me or give you some more advice if you need it.

I would like to know this too. Wouldn't mind dropping in a 98-00 into my 92.

Ask user "NextLevelCoupe" (or something like that), he swapped a whole 98+ drivetrain into his '92. I think its a lot more works than it seems..

It would be easier to swap a gte than to overcome all the trouble to get that nightmare of a set up installed properly as you really need a donor car to do it right.

i think there is an immoblizer for the 98-00? i remember reading something like that when someone tried the 98-00 motor to a 92. i dont think he could bypass the immoblizer.

Yea that as well as the fact that the 98+ uses a return less fuel system so you would need the tank, pump, lines etc etc
Then there is the wiring....

yeah there are a lot of systems you have to mess with.
Honestly the vvti is better in stock form, but the older 1uz's are the bulletproof ones.
for less money you could have a remote turbo setup at low boost and an R154 swap.
Oh wait thats what I want to do when I get my hands on a 400 sidetracked again

I am doing the swap in my SC in couple days.

my car is 96SC300 and i am swap 99 SC400complete swap, I mean i have the complete car and i am swapping everything over.

Tank is different because it has the emission stuff on top of the tank, abs, and the air bag system is different also.

If you don't have a complete donor car don't do it !
