Default Manual transmission oil and diff oil?!

I have a 92 sc300 with 193,xxx miles. I want to change out the fluids on both the transmission and differential. My question is can I use the same oil
For both? The manual says the trans can take 75w-90 or 80w-90 and the diff can take sae-80 or 80w-90. Can I use the same
80w-90 in both?

It has additives for transmission use I believe. I would just use Mobil 1 gear oil for diff.

Ok, I just was trying to avoid having extra oil when I do a drain and refill of my transmission. Thanks for the quick response! 80w-90 for the Mobil 1?

Your differential should be stamped with the recommended lube for the diff. It is recommended to use synthetic in the SC400. I would think the same recommendation is on the SC3 diff.

Make sure to use MT-90 or MTL in the transmission. It works great with the W58 and R154. Don't use GL-5 gear oil in our transmissions. The friction additives in those oils will hamper synchro engagement.

Thanks for the response, i found where I can source mt-90. What do you guys use on your differential? I know to go with synthetic but as far as brand I'm not to sure. Redline, royal purple or Mobil 1. And what weight oil? I live in California where the weather doesn't get too cold. The repair manual asks for 80w-90 for the diff. What have you guys used with great results?

An old mechanic trick is add about 1/2 quart to 3/4 quart of gear oil to three quarts of manual tranny fluid, and then add it to the tranny. This is what iis in my R154 currently. Both are Redline type fluid.

I would also use the recommended weight, but use Royal Purple or Redline. Both of these have proven to be great synthetic blends.
