Default transmission issues

hey all who can help, ive got a toyota soarer/sc300 so 1jzgte, still pritty much bog stock engine wise. but the car is excessivly slow! had it on the dyno for a base starting point. it only made 168.2rwhp i know thier a heavy car but i know this aint right. its still the standard 3sp auto. if i ride through the gears 1st gear pulls reasonably well, but as soon as i hit second it feels like an 18 wheeler accelerating, ive checked for boost leak, 8psi at the intake plenum, not sure what it could be....it feels allot like clutch slip would in a manual. torque converter? shift bands i just dont want to start buying stuff if thats not the problem....thanks all that can help

How do you know you have a 3 speed?

I have a feeling your car is shifting straight to 3rd after 1st but not locking up?? I don't know how that would even be possible but it sounds like it would explain your situation.

Good luck, this is a bizarre one.

I thought the same thing. I thought it was shift bands. As far as I know its a 3 speed. L 2 D are the gears plus overdrive. But if I shift through them manually u can hear the definate change in gears. But still gutless. But even if it wasn't shifting properly it would still register full power on the dyno. This is where I started to think it was the torque converter. Just trying to see if any one out there has had a similar problem.

your supposed to keep o/d on because it's the 4th gear, which means more power better fuel economy, also essentially, you should make sure you have a full tune up done, spark plugs, seafoam (for excess carbon build up) air filter etc. all these things + more affect performance! just my 2cents...even if it's not worth that much lol

I would leave o/d off at all times when dynoing or beating on the car.
The o/d is the weakest gear in the trans..

Go on supraforums and look up how to make an a340 last.

I have a na-t 300rwhp auto and I never use the o/d unless cruising on the highway

ya i understand this but its not really explaining the problem. this isnt a matter of making the car run cleaner....something is physically wrong......when its getting pumped buy a non turbo impreza....sumthins broke....
