My Lexus SC400
So I have a 1992 Lexus SC400, 1UZ-FE, but this beast has 182000miles on it (nearly 300,000kms) and I was curious to know whether machining the engine is worth it, or is the engine too old? This is my first sports car as I am fairly young and I don't know the ropes to well yet, so feel free to take me to school on this if you have to!

I wouldn't touch the engine, unless you going fast (even then, it'll handle 400+hp).

The engine super reliable. I have seen them with more than 400K on the odometer and still going. Just do the maintenance and keep driving it. If you plan on modding it, then pull out your check book. Parts are very expensive. One of my SC's has over 350K and still going with ice cold AC

i'm in the same situation, you should of searched before you asked cuz i asked this everyone on here advised me not to, these cars can take one hec of a beating but DO YOUR MAINTAINENCE! the guy before me didn't maintain and i'm sure previous owners didn't eaither my sc has 296k km on it so around the same miles as yours. I'm changing all the fluid just got mobil 1 today for a steal! and going to change out all fluids, do brakes and filters, plugs, distributors etc. Don't worry just do maintainence, it's called a lex forever because if toyota's can last forever..imagine a lexus lol and btw my 93 sc4 is my 1st car!

Well to my surprise I think the water pump went on the engine, the power steering is making noise and something on the timing belt is squeaking. I may have to sell the car, don't really have the money to buy parts and maintain it =( Not to mention there could be potential damage to the head gasket which will be a pain to fix

Excuses, show me where you can do a full water pump, pulleys, and timing belt on any other luxury sport for under $175.

Im with O.L.T doing the water pump on a 400 is not that expensive and i bought my kit from ebay as well best price i have purchased timing belts components for even my 4 banger eclispe gst cost more in timing belt components.
all vehicles are expensive to maintain from a suzuki to a lexus nothing is cheap is you buy it from the dealership so shop around you will be surprised how pocket friendly maintaining a 400 can be now if you wanna mod it i suggest playing the powerball right away.

Well the real issue was I was scared the HG had cracks in it, but I've decided to put the time into it and buy a whole new head gasket and replace the water pump and then work on the power steering last. I start full time concrete now that summer has finally come so I will be able to afford it. =p Thank you for the ebay link, I am gonna look for an after market pump and gaskets if I can, shop around.
