Ok guys, I know different variations of this same ques have been asked BUT...97 SC300 about to go 1J (maybe 1.5J but thats another thread). Right now have the factory auto. So Im looking to get the best bang for my buck. I dont care if the car stays auto as long as the trans can handle it, plus if its auto my girl can still drive me home from the bar. Its a DD and wont see track time so I dont want to go over 400hp. I want to go the cheapest route so I have $ for other mods on other cars. I know I can use the stock trans until it dies but then, can I easily (reliably) swap over to a MKIV TT auto and TT auto LSD? Or do I just go the R154 route? Ive been searching local junkyards for low mileage R154's in the MKIII Supra's with the 7MGTE. The only thing is, when I ask the junkyards for an 89+ 7MGTE 5-speed, they ask if the car is with or w/o ABS. My obvious answer is w/ABS since the SC has it, but is there really a difference once I switch the bellhousing? Im finding the 7M R154 to be around $650. Is that a good price? What if I buy the complete Soarer 1jz swap with auto and just drop that in? Is that tranny any better/different that my existing auto? Thanks guys...and please dont reply back with "just get a v160" bc we all know that tranny is worth as much as my whole car and I have 3 other projects, a 97 M3/4, 97 528i and my 94 325i with a blown head-which might get my 1jzgte bottom end and 2jzge head and go NA+T.
