Auto trans slipping/shuddering?
I just put back together that monster 2JZ-GE intake after a good cleaning, new gaskets and whatnot, and all sorts of gremlins are appearing.
The most disturbing one that I'm not sure how to deal with is I think my tranny is slipping. Whenever I come to a full stop it "lets go" and judders forward a little. If I modulate my braking I can avoid the forward lurch but clearly there is something wrong.
I've done some research and the best I can come up with is maybe the AT control cable connected to the throttle is maladjusted. If that's the likely culprit, should I tighten it or loosen it first? I've heard bad things about over-tightening and rupturing a diaphragm in the tranny. What to do?

Thanks for the reply, but nah, I checked and adjusted it with a multimeter already. It's starting to get old and read a little higher than 1v/step but it was that way when I bought the car. Not sure if it affects anything.
I really just don't want to screw up my transmission by messing with things I don't understand. I've tried and will continue to search for the solution, just hoping someone here knows all about this cable. Damn I wish I had a v160. Someday.

It sounds like the pressure is too low.
The kick down cable modulates the line pressure based on the throttle I believe, I've got mine were it's almost snug (just a little loose, but stil tight if that makes sense). It should never make the throttle raise though.

Awesome.
I went and adjusted it tighter and drove around a bit - no change.
Not so awesome is that after that I loosened the cable, put it in drive, and the transmission clunked as if the driveshaft was going to fall off. Shifting has become pretty dramatic, I think I'll tighten it up.
