yes, check wiring for shorts or opens/stretched wires

so it still not working after the cluster has been rebuilt, I noticed that the N light does not turn on, same for the shifter area. Anyone have any ideas what that is?

You can look in my gallery for the diagrams to the cluster and trace those wires.

so I have confirmed that cruise control also doesn't work.

I have looked at the diagram and also the alldatadiagram. Signal from the source system goes to the tacho and speedo. There is a 10A fuse there which is fine (tested).

Basically

From
Power Source System > 10A GAUGE > Tacho
Power Source System > 10A GAUGE > VSS > Speedo / Trip Meter
A/T Indicator SW > Neutral

haven't looked at cruise yet, all of those are connected to the harness that goes to the ignitor and transmission vss.

Also, can a loose battery connection cause all this?

just to answer the thread, finally found the answer...the harness behind the engine was stretched some how and we just replaced it with a new harness.

Default Solution maybe

it could be the sc400 wire harness for the cluster instrumental
these cars are known to have many electrical wiring problems
