Default Proper W58 for the sc400 Swap

Hey everyone,
So my swap is close, Im excited to see that
auto stick leave and bring my car to life,
I know I have read about various W58's, say if
they are off a supra mk whatever? or a sc300,

what one would be the best for the swap?
if a sc300, what years? if a supra what years?

ide appreciate the help.

thanks everyone.

I used a JDM W58 but have seen the same set up from a later model Supra NA. The shifter extension is about perfect, has the electronic speedo sender and allows the use of a short shifter. That's a R-154 in the back with the JDM extended housing, we ended up fabricating an extension for it.

ANY MK4 Supra W58 or SC300 W58.

Any of those... no MK3 Supra W58...

Nope. Its the same issue with the MK3 W58, except it has not been explored yet. We know the issues with the MK3 W58 and it is no bolt in affair, ie we used a welder 2 different times to get it all to work.

Unless you want to make your own Frankenstein transmission mount out of the SC4 auto and MKIII manual and then put together a shifter puzzle...You probably don't want the MKIII.

I'm confused? There is a w58 for sale locally, seller says it was removed from an is300. How can I tell the difference? What do I look for? I appreciate the help.

Well get him to send some photos of it and post them for one. Then we can analyze. Unless he swapped in the W58 it is a W55, though.

A lot of IS300 owners think they have a w58 in it cause all the newer toyotas had that... but they are wrong wrong wrong.

yes is300 does not use a W58, these guys are correct and the w55 they do use is much weaker than a w58 and I would not consider putting it behind the v8 for a second.

you need one from an sc300 or a mk4 supra, if you get the 95+ you will get the newer style remote tailhousing but this is not necessary, any of them from the above cars will get the job done.

If you want to use a mk3 trans, forget the w58 and do the R154 swap, dont they make the adapter plate for those as well?

WELL SEARCH ANYWAYS!! Just kidding, but excessively researching will always build your comfort level for any undertaking anyways. So search on.

You're going to have to make a custom transmission mount also.
