LSX swap in progress.....
I decided to do this based on the questions, concerns, based off people on this forum. I am a believer that the 1uzfe is a great platform. But $ - HP isnt on its side. I decided to swap an LSX based engine to show the $ to hp gain. I was going to use which ever LSX platform I could find cheap, ie 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0.
So far I have found an acutal 5.7 LS1 short block for $350 with 98K miles. I wanted a really LS1 so I could keep the aluminum block. I bought a bearing kit for $200 so replace the main, and cam bearings. Just to make sure its up to par. Next I bought , LS6 intake, LS1 cam, manifolds, fuel rails, injectors, all stock for $100. If i keep all stock parts Im looking at making around 290rwhp. I plan on up the cam to a small emission freindly cam. The heads im looking for a 5.3L head. Smaller cubustion chamber means more compression and more HP.
So far to date ive spent $650. Im gonna run a 4L60 trans to keep the ECM easy to deal with.

The only word that comes to mind is WHY? I would have swapped in a 1000 HP capable engine, AKA 2JZ and have a flexible platform. My neighbor did that LS1 swap and i told him if he's not planning on boosting it, he wasted a lot of time and money. It cost him close to 5 grand and he's still not finished. When he's finished he's going to have a whopping 300WHP --whoppy fing doooo... I'm not trying to **** on your parade or anything, it's just MY opinion. Enjoy the project, it will be a hell of a sounding car...

lol. I knew that I would get some guff about doing the swap. Ive done these swaps before. Just not in a SC400. It really isnt that hard. The biggest reason people spend so much money on these swaps is lack of research. Most people just start buying stuff and dont really know what there buying. Or people buy brand new everything.
As far as my goals. After talking to a few friends of mine, Im uping the cam and looking for 400rwhp. But the biggest thing is Im only going to spend $2000 or less on the entire swap.
I know most of you think the swap is stupid. But look at it this way. When I have a running LS1 swapped in the car running and making 400rwhp and all under $2000. And the another 1uzfe guy spends over $1000 on just cams, for maybe 30hp gain. Or find a complete M90 kit on here and spend around 2000 dollars just to come shy of 300hp. Its a big difference.

Like i said, don't take it personally i think it's cool and all, but "imho" there are better options for that power level, and more reliable as well
Now, if you boost that sucker, you would have a very loyal fan on your side my next project will have either turbo v12 or turbo LS1
