Default 1jzgte headgasket

I bought a 1jz with 34k miles. I looked at the oil and it was chocolate. The place where I bought it from told me that headgaskets never usually go bad. I've changed out the cam seal and front + rear main seal. Should I change the headgasket now since the oil is bad? This is my first swap so im not too experienced with all this.

Thanks,
Andrew

wait is this engine in the car, or are you in the process of swapping it??

if it's in the car and running, do an oil change on it and see if the problem returns after some driving. Also check the coolant to see if it's disappearing or changing to a similar color as your oil.

oh sorry for not saying. The engine is out of the car. I am in the process of swapping it in but I may just go ahead and change the headgasket to be sure. Which is more money that i'll have to put down. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Thanks,
Andrew

oil can break down over time depending on how long its been sitting and stuff.
you could always change the oil and run the engine to tell for sure.
another indication would be a compression test.

yea if it's out of the car, it's probably been sitting around for so long moisture built up in the crankcase causing this. It's normal, just drop the oil pan and clean it all out.

and yea while you have it out, go ahead and do the head gasket.
