my sc400 is running RICH and would LIKE some help please
i have an sc400 1992 with 170K miles. And smells like gasoline when the car is running. and it smells like that about instantly smell like gas.
lately the check engine code is throwing me 24, so i knew something is wrong with the mafs.
I then purchased a used one and installed it and before i reset the ecu i recieved engine codes 24 and 31 now (iat and mafs).
So after i reset the ecu no codes are thrown at me.
Now I started it again and STILL the smell of gas...
Can anyone give me some ideas?? thanks

Give people some time. The first thing when you think it runs rich is to take out the spark plugs and see if all 8 are rich (black smoke and smelly gas) or just some of them are rich. Some injectors may get stuck open. If the ECU is ruled out because of the same symptom after it's replaced, then check fuel pressure regulator. Then we'll go from there.

Phillip,
Have you checked for physical gas leaks ? Check around the fuel injectors for leaks. A Clogged air filter will make the car run rich, like stevechumo and magagsxr said, do a tune-up, when you pull your spark plugs, check their condition. Take pictures if you have to. Post back.

Does it smell like RAW gas or exhaust gas? If it smells like RAW fuel, look for a fuel leak. But, if it smells like exhaust gas after the repairs and no codes are present it maybe your Catalytic converter. You said you had around 170k miles, if its the original converter it maybe SHOT.
I have a little over 190k miles on my car with the original CAT and that **** stinks. Im not replacing it cause it still passes inspection and it doesnt bother me that much..

Worth checking, dealt with this for a year before I sold my 400.
