1UZ-FE swap complete. S366, Haltech, E85
I've been a member here for quite some time but very seldom do I post. I have a nice stock sc400 currently and had a 1jz sc300 in the past. But with that being said, I figured that you guys might appreciate the current status of my mk3.
The whole process took about 3-4 weeks of actual work. It's still in the "shake down phase". When I'm confident that everything is sound then I'll put all the engine covers on and clean the rest of the mess up under the hood.
Here's what's done:
100% stock 1UZ-FE from the junkyard $350
Borg warner S366 (kind of annoying that this turbo is becoming the flavor of the month)
Running on E85
R154
Haltech EMS
8 x 875cc Injectors
Totally stock ignition system with all new components
3" I/C pipes to a 4" I/C core
2 Walbros feeding a -8 to the rails
Currently the car is sitting at 14psi. It feels pretty much like my 1J did at about 20psi but with a ridiculous power band. Unfortunately the clutch is letting go at anything above that. The clutch is rated at 600ftlbs...but you know how that goes.As far as final boost is concerned, I'm aiming for 20-25psi when it's all said and done. I don't see that being a problem at all with E85, 10:1 compression and and exceptional tuner ;-) The ONLY weakness in this engine is the composite headgaskets. If they become an issue then I'll swap MHG's and studs on. Then my goal will move to 30+psi.
Heres a 3 minute video that sums up an hour of tuning. It still feels wierd with that exhaust note coming from my Supra.
Don't think I'll ever get used to that.

And just one more for any mk3 lovers out there.

Wow man very nice build. You need to get that thing on a roller asap. Need to keep us updated on the motor because only a handful of people on here boosted their 1UZ's so its not common. And we need video's of this beast in motion

It's only an in car vid, but you can hear it quite well. :-)
As for a dyno session, I not even remotely happy enough with it to justify that yet. The damn clutch that I have is slipping like mad in 3rd gear and up. So, maybe you guys can give me any insight you have regarding clutch fitment on a 3sgte flywheel and r154. I have my old act extreme from my 1j..If I can't get any definitive answers from somebody then I'll probably drop the trans and try to make that work. Whenever I get the clutch situated.....its on. I've been tuning for nearly 12 years and i'll tell ya....this engine responds to boost like a champ and seems very happy while doing it.

Very nice ! i like the fab skills that went into the project.
I can see you flipped the intake manifold! nice trick ..i was thinking why did he turn the manifold ..then i realise it will make more sense going from the driver side since the turbo is already on the passenger side and lack of room of course. my hat off to you!
And then you are running one of the baddest Turbo out there...
Best 1UZ-T thread I really like the Single turbo setup , it makes things alot easier .
So what PP and disc are you running right now? maybe i can help you find the clutch you need for your setup.

The whole thing is beautiful, and not just because I have a red 89 Supra that is destined to get a 1UZ
A v8 + e85 + boost is a wicked combination. I swear if I knew how to weld, my SC would be boosted!

This was the original route I was going to take, but decided on the swap. That turbo is becoming more popular nowadays. I love the sound of that V8, I hope I dont miss it... This is an awesome thread...You have mad skills.
