Thanks, that is exactly the information I was after. This winters project is the trans swap including tunnel if I can still get it at Toyota. It's funny as I read that entire v160 swap thread months ago, feeling both jealous and happy that I didn't have to do that...oh well, nothings ever easy on this car.

That will be a project for sure! Don't forget the gaskets and boots if you plan to do it that way. If something isn't available any longer you may need to source them from a wrecked 92-94 5-speed. Not sure what the best EPC is to use for this since we've lost Sewell's recently.
And the Lexus SC300 5-speed (and Soarer) were the only models that used the early tunnel. Never on the Supra MKIV. You have to order it through a Lexus dealer or some place like Carson. Or an importer but the shipping would be horrendous
Supra MKIV Manuals basically have the trans tunnel that is already in your 1996, just under another part number.
This is an involved way to do it but I say go for it! It will be a very clean installation when you're finally done

Heads up to anyone interested there now appears to be an aftermarket copy of the Soarer R154 extension housing from Xcessive Manufacturing. They require you to send in your MKIII R154's original internal shift arm for them to modify but they make the upper housing themselves. I can't vouch for the quality of their parts but it looks to be the same thing in cast aluminum like the original Toyota part.
See it on their website. They offer two versions and I am not sure what the difference is between them. I'd call or email and ask.
Where before you'd have to send your internal arm and MKIII R154 shift housing out to be extended in the wake of those original Soarer parts being halted with a stop-sale outside of Japan and later discontinued entirely the aftermarket has stepped up.
Xcessive also appears to have their own transmission crossmember for adapting an MKIII R154 into an SC300/400 as well as manual pedal sets for our cars.

$250 is the average that I have seen, yes. That is also about what I paid for my OEM Soarer extension housing from overseas just before they were discontinued. I can see a purpose for the really long custom extension services for some cars but when so many people still want to convert these MKIII R154's I was happy to see that there is now an aftermarket solution. Hopefully it's dead-on to the original.
