Default Water Bypass Valve?

Im in the beginning stages of making a custom intake of sorts. Basically, Ill be keeping the stock air intake box and filter. I just want to run some piping down to the opening next to my fog light to catch the air flowing through there. Is it recommended that I add a water bypass valve or will my panel filter keep it safe?
