Default 6puck vs 4puck Dual Friction. Q's?

Okay I was always under the impression that a 6puck is a lot more streetable than a 4 puck.

I went to a local clutch shop who makes clutches. Talked to a guy who has been doing this for near 20 years. He told me that the 4 puck dual friction clutch is a lot more streetable than the 6 puck dual friction.

Opinions?

I've always heard that a six puck is easier to drive. I would just go with a disc-type clutch if its for street driving though.

more "pucks" = more surface area for the clutch to grab and easier to hold higher torque. granted the pressure plate has a role but that being equal....

theoretically the clutch that has more surface area will grab harder and experience less slip. based on that a 6 puck would be more difficult to drive.

how does the clutch disk area of the 6 and 4 puck clutches compare?

disk material playes a huge role too. i have a 6 puck copper ceramic AP racing clutch laying around and that thing was an on/off switch. rev to 4k and dump the clutch. make sure no one or anything is in front of you

Actually, isn't it the other way around? More pucks=more surface area and less pounds per sq. in of pressure exerted and therefore MORE tendency to slip? If you have, for example, a solid round disc, there is ~2-3 times more contact area than a six puck, and less pressure exerted on each point of contact.
It's like using skis/snowshoes. On skis/snowshoes, the pressure exerted on each inch of snow beneath you is lower because the weight is distributed over a larger area.

Good info, please keep it coming.

Its an 1800lbs Pressure Plate

Dual friction, half Kevlar, and half (some metallic compound, forgot the name).

I think you should go for the six puck. It will be easier to drive, and you don't need a 4 puck unless you're constantly at the track.

But You have an SC400?..................Ohh, I think I know whats going on . I hope that's whats happening, lol. I'm going to be installing a Competition Clutch sprung 6 puck in my SC in a couple days. I can Pm you my opinion of it's street-ability versus that of my factory clutch in my IS300 ( somewhat relevant ). Or if Kirk ever throws another one of those bbq/meets you can drive it and see for yourself.
