Default serious maintanence question

So i had my car at the dealership here in las vegas to replace the drive belts because i dont have any tools.
I asked them to change the fill plug on the differential because it was stripped and i wasnt sure if the oil had ever been changed so they inform me my differential is leaking and in order to reseal it its gonna be something like 1000 dollars.
They said to fix my power steering (which i dont feel a damn thing wrong with) replace timing belt, water pump and reseal my differential would be 3,600 and perfect on the road.

mind you ive driven this car 6 times to california in the few months ive had it and experienced not 1 problem. except more recently it just feels like a lack of acceleration.

should i trust bringing it to another shop because i know the timing belt is like 1000 but they cant be serious about 3600 for all of that or am i wrong?

could be a leaking p/s rack, which you cant repair and you replace, assuming its leaking from the inner tie rods, i would take it to a toyota specialest not just some ghetto place

They aren't ripping you off. These are things that are technically wrong with your car. Your car will work perfectly fine if you do not do these things, however it is things that they have noticed on your car. Also the labor rate at dealerships tends to be significantly higher than independent shops. It will be significantly cheaper if you go to an independent shop

$1000 to reseal the differential?? Wow thats money. I did my brother's in like an hour. Its not that hard to do. I say try other shops in your area that specialize in Toyota/Lexus.

sorry but they ARE trying to rip you off. That is why they are called "STEALERSHIPS" buddy. Retap the threads in your diff plug hole,(that might be where your leaking) is no big deal to do and any good indy shop can do that very easily and very cheaply. Timing belt/water pump, ANY good indy shop dealing in Toyota's can do those all day long with their eyes closed for a very reasonable amount of money. Never EVER take your car to a stealership unless you still have the factory warranty on your car, period! Here in Houston, indy shops are AT LEAST half the cost of a dealership and do a much better job in my opinion. Shop around for who"s good and trustworthy and competitive in price, then watch them do the work.Just please, do not talk like you do not know the *** end of a screw driver, when talking to ANY mechanic. They won't like you......
