How do you know if your torque converter is bad?
How do you know if your torque converter is bad? If I pull it will it be obvious? The tranny went into limp mode (I think that's what it's called) which allowed me to get home going about 20mph. I drove it for about 5 miles to get back. Once I got it here and it sat for a few days I tried to drive it again and it will not go into reverse, drive, ect.
I'm hoping it's just the torque converter since that is a cheaper part than a new transmission. I have the driveshaft, exhaust and everything else unbolted or unhooked except the trans. What could I find?

What do you mean it won't go into gear? Like...the shifter won't move? Or when you put it into the gear, nothing happens?
If the second one is the case, and the car isn't pointed directly at anything...when you put it in gear, give it some gas, if the RPMs increase then it goes, sounds like a torque converter to me.
That's about the extent of my knowledge on auto trannys. someone else will probably be of more help, but there's somethin' to start with.

The shifter moves fine but the car doesn't even shutter or move at all. There was the right amount of fluid but it looked really dark like motor oil.
