Default Need advice on Plugs/Wires for NA-T

I have a boostlogic stage 1 kit with 550cc injectors and last time on the dyno my car was getting break up when attempting to tune boost levels above 9lbs. The shop suggested an HKS DLI, so I picked one up and thought it would be a good idea to do the distributor cap and rotor along with the plugs and wires as well. I've got it all accept the plugs and wires and need some good advice on what to get.

Should I go with a colder plug than the stocks? If so, two steps colder? And what wires would appropriately accomodate the plugs?

Let me know. Thanks.

get ngk 6097 its 1 step colder plug , if you are using dli gap them around.28 use stock wires the aftermarket stuff is a waste

i used the ngk and gapped mine down to .24 and was able to boost up to 21psi but have since added a hks dli to insure a hotter spark and more complete burning of fuel so plugs had to be regapped to almost .30 .. man does it boost hard at 18psi

Thanks lexforlife, I'll look into your recommendation and I'm sure it'll end up working out just fine. It certainly is working wonderfully for you! (475rwhp 445rwtrq) Anyone else have a suggestion or personal opinion on the plugs and wires situation? I have heard from quite a few people the stock plugs are the way to go, but I'd be interested in hearing from someone who's used stock and aftermarket with an NA-T setup so they can compare them. Also, any other spark plug recommendations?

Your problem is spark plug blow out, your solution is to gap down a set of 6097's.

There are no silver bullet spark plugs out there waiting to be discovered by you or anyone else. Pretty much its 6097's or Iridium's. These are fully proven spark plugs as are the oem wires. Read on Supraforums, MKIV.com, NA-T or IntelLexual. You'll find more complete, thorough discussions there than you'll every hope to collect retreading a well covered topic again that was easily searched.

Thanks guys. A little more research on my part will take place and then I'll make a purchase. I'm excited to see what the car will put down at around 14lbs. I don't want to push it too much thought cuz I haven't done the headgasket yet and I have 130k on my 97 5spd NA-T. Thanks again!

1sxyrxy: I plan on tuning the 14lb dyno run on race gas, but yes it's on stock compression. Do you still think that's too risky? And I'll probably have my high boost setting on pump gas at 12lbs. What do you think?

I got the 6097 plugs, had them gapped down to .028, and some other stuff too. I also installed the new distributor cap, rotor, OEM wires, and the HKS DLI. I'm picking the car up on Friday, so we"ll see how it feels then. As far as the limiting factor last time on the dyno it was probably the cap and rotor because the shop said they were trashed upon removal! I was going to throw it back on the dyno and possibly do a 14lb race gas pull to see if I could get into the 400+rwhp range, but I've decided to wait until my next mods. I'll soon be doing the headgasket, head studs, etc so I guess I'll just wait (hopefully).

Got everything installed and WOW what a difference! The plugs are gapped at 0.28 and with the DLI has made my car spool up quicker and the boost hit harder. It really is a noticeable increase in acceleration and no more break up during boost in 5th gear. If your turbo and don't have one, GET ONE! And if you haven't changed your distributor cap and rotor do that too. It's less than $20 for both combined and makes a world of difference. Peace.

Listen, you don't want to get anywhere near 14psi if you're on the stock HG. For all I know, you really don't want to even push further than 10psi on stock HG. You built a powerful motor and not a bomb.

I read somewhere that 3330's are garbage. You're going to fk up your motor bro. 6097's are the way to go!
