Default Help! My SC Began to Overheat...

I have a 92 SC400, it just started to overheat today, I've let it sit idleing before and nothing wrong has happened, but today after about 15 minutes it started to overheat. I stopped put water in it and turned it back on, it was good for about 2 minutes then it overheated again... I need your help, this is the last thing I need.... could it be a leak or something?

Thank You...

Check for leaks first off, that should be obvious though. I would look around the plastic end tanks for cracks. My Soarer's end tank cracked near the radiator cap just from the plastic being so old. Also check to see if your fan is turning on. Does it flip on when the car starts getting hot? Maybe some trip sensor has gone bad. Only time my Soarer over headed was when a shop accidentally yanked out one of my wires to my electric fans killin em.

SC400 has a hydraulic fan unless youve swapped to an electric fan. id do a pressure test of the system and check all hoses for leaks. sometimes its a tiny hose or it could be one of the 2 main hoses for the radiator.

But there is something that trips the fan to come on, otherwise the pully just freespins, I meant maybe the sensor thats supposed to trip it died but I agree, check leaks first.

first things first check the upper and lower hoses are they both hot if not most likely thermostat is stuck or possible water pump hissing can be from many things so after checking the hoses check for leaks by pressurizing the system

Also check the radiator cap. Its a 13lb pressure system and with the date of your SC it could be old an not able to hold the pressure which would allow the system to overheat and the hissing could be pressure escaping the cooling system via the cap.
