Well people the time has come for me to take care of some engine issues that I have been meaning to take care of. My 93 SC3 5spd has 186K on the clock, runs like general poo and needs a mew heart. Now I finally got my check for my vacation from Jiffy Lube after 5 years of managing a shop. I have $5,500 to spend on the engine and trans and what have you.

This is were you guys come in. I need honest opinions on what route I should take. I know I can piece this together fairly easily. But I want real options. I've noticed that the price of 1JZ's are starting to jump a lot in recent months. I do want a R154 trans though. Can these be had for a decent price or are they gonna rape me on those also? Would it just be better to have Dr. Tweak do my engine harness?I would like to have a fairly fast turn around on this part of the project and I heard he does good work. Or could I get away with a 2JZ-GTE with a mild single. Say a 67mm or a T04Z which I have my eye on.

I'm not really shooting for an insane powered car. I'm gonna be using this car as a major source of transportation. It will see the track once in a blue moon. But will mainly be built for my enjoyment. I just wanna know people pros and cons for each set up. What would you choose? What do you not like about other options? Help me out people. I need to finally boost an SC. I'm on my 3rd on so far.

I think 5500 would be a squeeze for a GTE + 154 + wiring, though it would be a "nice" way to go. Adding a single to that would surely put you over budget. Just try not to ebay it up if you go NA-T. Thats what gives NA-T a bad rep. Get good quality parts and be willing to pay, and you'll be just as good as a GTE.

That's the thing. I'm starting to notice that 1JZ's are fetching more than the JDM 2JZ's Just searching around I might be able to do a 154 2J swap for around the same price as a 1JZ. I'll be saving a lot 'cause I'll be performing teh swap myself. I just suck at electronics.
