Default I can't believe this...

I'm so frustrated...

a week ago my serpentine started popping off whenever I'd accelerate. Then got worse to where when I'd start the car it'd shoot off.

Well, I replaced the belt...Same result
Just replaced the tensioner w/ a BRAND new one and the same FREAKIN thing happens...well this time I at least got it started but then when I accelerated the same thing happened.

it's a 95 sc400...

my power steering pump has been pretty leaky lately...A/C works fine...

I'm really at a loss here.

Something is binding, check all pulley's for free movement when the belt is off next...... which will be in 5 mins.

Well this is an uneducated guess at best, but I know that on the 1jz-gte, leaky PS pumps are usually due to wear in the shaft/bearings that allows fluid to seep out. If this is the case on your PS pump, the excessive play in the shaft could mean that the pulley for that pump may no longer be perpendicular to the belt which could cause the belt to jump off.

man that's a really informative first post!

I bet you are right.

and O.L.T. I did make sure none of them are stuck - I'll wait til it's light out tomorrow to get a better idea though.

the sc400 has a harmonic balancer right?

the reason I ask is because there's a deep vibration/knocking sound that kinda lopes w/ the engine ... until the belt comes off. If the balancer was screwed up would cause that much reverberation?

now I don't know if I figured out the problem or not...but the biggest pulley doesn't spin freeley when the car's off. I don't know if it should though? (It's the on in the middle towards the bottom w/ the number 10 above it) All of the other pulleys spin pretty easily except the alternator but it's only slight resistance.

I don't know if the big pulley is the crankshaft and it shouldn't spin unless the engine is on or what.

yea the big pulley is the crank pulley. you wont be able to spin it by hand.

i had a problem like that on my old mustang. it turned out to be a loose pulley on the alternator.

I put the belt back on again and had my G/F start it while I watched and it didn't pop off so I watched it while it was running...something is flexing the tensioner...not like constant but in a rhythm. All pulleys spin straight...none seem to wobble or anything but I think there's off and on resistance.

I can talk myself into 3 possibilites.

1. Harmonic balancer has deteriorated (Lotsa miles)
2. Power steering leaks alot (but pulley spins freelely and straight no wobble)
3. Alternator from having ATF dripped on it for so long isn't spinning right.

if it was harmonic balancer would you see it spinning oddly?
