147,000 miles - Best oil to use?
So I am sure this may have been covered but I am looking to change my own oil so I want to use the best oil possible-problem is the engine has 147,000 miles on the SC and I was told not to use synthetic. Any suggestions from all you experienced folks. Normally I prefer to run castrol gtx?

My sc400 has been using Moblie 1 synethic for over 100k miles, even tho it is rated for 6k each oil change instead of 3k, i still change it every 3k. Everyone at the drive and shine oil place think im crazy but i like over doing it

I am at 161,000 and only use synthetic in the motor, tranny, and rear end. What was this persons reasoning for telling you not to use synthetic? I have used it in every car I have ever owned and it has proven to make a good difference in engine wear and life. I'll stick with the 10-30 Mobil 1.

20w50 all the way....oh thats for a racing engine
i use 5w30 all the time. never had a problem. dont have a reason not to use synthetic. well cost i guess. i get free oil and i only have to pay for a filter. and i get Genuine Toyota filters for 5 bucks. my dad uses synthetic on all other toyotas that we own and my moms nissan with no problems.
some people say that using synthetic on an older engine si not good because it will burn more oil since your rings dont seal as well as new ones would. i have not seen this to be true. im neutral on synthetic vs. organic debate.

With higher mileage motors, it is best not to switch over to synthetic. The reason was mentioned about. If you insist to use synthetic, it is in your best interest to do a synthetic/organic blend for a couple of oil changes, before going full synthetic. I would suggest to use Castrol GTX.

Thanks guys- I am very happy with the SC and want to treat it right. This forum has tons of experience so you guys are a great resource. I have always liked castrol becasue of it's anti shearing properties- But have also heard a lot of good stuff about Mobil 1 and Royal Purple. I have been told to stay away from full synthetic as seals that are worn throughout the engine do not fair so well-and may result in unwanted leaks ect.. But I thought if a few guys out here have had some success-I could give it a try. My bro has a GS400 and he swears by the Synthetic. I am still undecided -Thanks for the advice -lets here some more thoughts.

They brand it Liqui Moly here in Mexico and that is a good oil. For my RX300, I wasn't sold on the 5W40, felt kind of hesitant and lost some MPG on that, a 5W30 was better, but guys who have V8 engined vehicles at my track say it is a whole lot better on the 40 for them, and after having driven a few compared to the same such vehicles using something else, I'd have to agree.
