Default anyone? SC300 auto -> manual?

has anyone on here swapped their AUTO sc300 to a manual? if so, how hard was it to install the clutch pedal, swap the brake pedal? as well as install the master clutch cylinder?

it seems like it would be a lot of work and the entire front dash has to be taken out to get access to the footwell/pedal areas?

how much WHP are the 5spds rate to hold up to?

5spds and 6spds can share the same driveshaft back?

thanks in advance for any help

This has been done a number of times. The swap is as straight forward as an auto-manual swap could be.

Define "a lot of work". The front dash should not have to be taken out, although parts of the center console will have to go. You can peel back the carpet in pedal area and notice a hole cut in the firewall for the clutch pedal is already there.

Torque is the more vital stat when it comes to roasting a transmission. The W58 can take ~375wtq before you start rolling the dice. Guy have run them successfully over 450wtq (BLK97SC300 comes to mind), but few people with more than 375wtq would ever drag launch ther car with the W58.

This is not the case. Every V160 swap on the SC has involved a custom driveshaft in some way, shape, or form. However, the stock 5MT driveshaft from the SC300 will be a bolt on deal with the W58 transmission in place.

I can't believe I was nice enough to answer your questions. These questions have been asked and reasked often on this forum. Searching would have surfaced the answer to every one of your questions.

I sense your follow up questions will be...
Q: What Toyota gearbox would work on our cars and hold more than 375wtq?
A: R154 and the V160.

Q: Are those swaps as easy as the W58 swap?
A: Neither of those swaps are walks in the park because neither of those transmissions were ever on the SC from the factory.

i know i can do a search on this.. but i was looking for people that actually have DONE this swap.

blizzy- much appreciate your time and effort in answering my questions

i've changed out clutches a TON on my old 6spd supra, just wondering if the pedal swaps are easier than changing a clutch.
i ask because i think the space given to work on the pedals down there are very limited so it would be very tough.

just figuring out if it would be easier to sell mine and then buy a 5spd or just do the conversion to the car i have right now.

i'll try to search this topic as i decide but thanks again for your help

SC300 auto diff and manual diff the same?

on the supras the driver side axles were different between the two if you wanted to swap diffs.

same external dimension. no axle swap is necessary. SC300 a/t uses 4.27 and the SC300 m/t uses 4.08. The gearing will be a bit more aggressive with the a/t stock rear end, but it is certainly useable. Unless you have a turbo that needs some leverage to get spooling, the higher gearing will be positive for performance.

given the devaulation of the w58 transmission with so many high horsepower Supras and SC's making them less desireable, it would be much less expensive to do the swap rather than buy another car. The parts can be hard to find at times, but you will be in the $1000-$1500 range for the entire swap.

gotcha, so y ou're saying the 4.27 gear would be better than the 4.08 one (with the 5spd swap)?

so if i got a LSD for the car (which one do i need to get?- the TRD auto LSD?)

well i guess that is pretty cool to know the swap can be around $1500. how much would that tranny handle power wise (w58)

Yea thats for each pedal.. not only would you need the smaller brake pedal, but u would need the clutch pedal assembly (another piece).

i have a a/t diff in my 5sp and you cant tell a difference in acceleration. the gearing difference is too small. when you get an lsd you have several options.....mk4 supra complete pumpkin with a torsen diff, JDM soarer complete diff., or torsen diff(only the internals) out of a mk4 auto supra. the torsen out of the 6sp doesnt fit.....trust me i know
