Well I am now at the point where I need to sort the speedo out. Its a Supra MKIII R154 box in a JZA80 MKIV Supra. What speedo sensor works with this combo? Source? Price? Cheers guys.

the gear from the r154 speed sensor fits on the supra/sc3 speed sensor then you need to make an adaptor plate to mount the sensor to the trans so it doesnt hit the webbing on the gearbox.

 

Ok, so I need a MKIV manual speed sensor and an R154 gear to put on the MKIV sensor then an adapter plate to space it, corect?

Would a sensor from an Aristo 1JZ manual not just bolt on and work?

 

Will the JZX100 sensor fit in and match the MKIV speedo?

 

4000gt your first post is correct... as for the aristo or chaser sensors i would assume the chaser would work but am unsure and the aristo i really have no idea.

that is a possibility, I have not ever used a cable driven sensor box so I cannot advise you very well, sorry. My only suggestion is to try and find an electric sensor and see if it works.

 

sorry for bringing this back from the dead, but that martin crawler vss seems like a plausible solution for people who need to convert cable to electric vehicle speed sensor. Anyone have any experience with this?

 

I made a small bracket out of some aluminum I had laying around- it took me about 10 minutes to cut, bend, and make the final product.

I used the stock speed sensor from my W58 tranny. I believe that's the same as the speed sensor from my auto 97 transmission too. I'll post some pics tommorrow when I get a chance.

No need to get anything from that Marlin Crawler place- the bracket is VERY easy to make.

I used a stock sensor too, just screws on the existing sensor with 3 wire. the Marlin piece really is just replacing the stock Toyota part you can already get from a wreckers for $10. Oh and they take 6 months to reply to any communication, I gave up. I didnt need any bracket?

 

So I would need a sensor from a w58? Also, to 4000GT, exactly what part of the stock sensor (from r154?) just screw into the existing (from w58?) 3 wir.

 

I think 4000gt is talking about the gear on the end of the speed cable transferring over to the w58 sensor.

 

Oh, I see. Supposing that I don't have a w58 speed sensor, It seems that I can get this marlin adapter much cheaper then buying a new or even junkyard w58 speed sensor. I looked at my r154 vss and I noticed that I can unscrew the cable input. I thought that 4000gt was talking about that particular part. Thanks for the info.
