Default 92 SC400 performance TUNE UP LIST

Hi everyone I have a 92 SC400
I have had my car checked by toyo techs and they said evey thing is fine.
But need to flush my fluids.

How ever I just bought this car and just for my own personal records I want to do another tune up. That includes replacing the pulleys and timing belt.
Now if I go to Toyo Techs they are going to talk me out of getting performance parts like better ignition wires, spark plugs, coils pulleys and will want me to stay basic stock and tell me my car is fine again.

Yes I know if I type tune up I will just find a bunch of threads with the tune up scattered through out the forums, but nothing that gives the specific to what parts are needed. Please provide cost if possible not for install just parts.

This will help newcomers like my self from getting headaches from the vast knowledgeof our cars on just getting our feet wet to understanding our SC. I spent a great deal of hours on this awesome site but have to search very long and hard and piece threads together for one answer.

Thanks for your support.

1.Timing belt (www.whateverthe site is.com)

2.

Once this thread is done with the moderators permission and approval we dump the rest and just call it SC400/SC300 Performance TUNEUP LIST to get us started.

Thanks
Ragga

Great thread! Lets get that list going.

SC300:
-Harmonic Balancer: About $320
-Drive belt tensioner: About $100
-Water pump: About $200
-Timing belt: About $150
-Spark Plug wires: About $100
-Drive Belt: About $40

*Prices are close enough to what I paid for each part. I got a discount through Lexus.

On the sc400's its right about the alternator so if it starts to leak/fail you will end up replacing both your pump and alternator... Easier to replace a pump rather than a pump and an alternator...

uh, he's not talking about the power steering pump. Generally ppl replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt because in doing the timing belt, you have so much of the engine apart that the water pump is right there; best to have it done while everything's apart, then to have to tear it down again just for the water pump

HKS makes a drop-in filter for the sc and I'm sure the ls. usually below $40 for a badass filter, K&N costs about $70.

Check this site right here... it's for the LS400 but it's the same engine as ours, and there's a tutorial for nearly everything.

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/

As far as Tune Up goes....what your doing is the 120K maintenance. Timing Belt, Water Pump, Pulleys etc...

A tune up as far as I know is usually air filter, oil filter, oil change, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, some replace transmission filter, and check and or replace all other fluids(power steering, transmission, coolant, brake fluid. Some people will replace 02 sensors as well.

Personally I wouldn't drop that much money just to do that maintenance especially if they said it's good, unless your SC is perfect and there's nothing else worth doing to it that is.

I wouldnt consider replacing a harmonic balancer part of a tune up. those should only be replaced if you mess it up somehow.

unless your talking about the idler pulleys...

Default you guy want cheap parts for your tune-up?

I was thinking about doing the same when I bought my sc400 but haven't had the money to do it. From reading the forum, I have come across rockauto.com. they are CHEAP for denso and bosch parts. I bought wires, plugs, grommet, pcv valve, rotors, caps and air filter ( even though I have a k&n.) But ill use it as that k&n dries from cleaning. I paid 230 out the door with shipping and everything. im just waiting on it to be shipped. Did the tranny flush, next will be the coolant flush, and brakes. Try them out. They are more reasonable in price than ebay or amazon.
