1992 SC400 Performance
Looks like I finally found my SC ... was quite tough to get one in Europe.
Unfortunately, it's old (92) and already has quite some mileage on it (120k), but it's in excellent condition. And I got a really good deal on it! Or how does $5500 sound to you?
Now, it's time to think about performance. My questions:
I can't get a reliable figure on 0-60 times for a stock '92. Does anyone know?
How does a '92 compare to later models in terms of performance?
Which performance mods would you recommend? From what I read in this forum, I thought I'd go for a torque converter and HFI/ECU. But it seems to me that there's no HFI/ECU for a 92, right?
Any other bolt-ons you'd recommend?
And finally, can you recommend an aftermarket dealer who ships internationally?
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Diego

'92 SC400
0-60 6.9-7.1
1/4 mile 15.2-15.3 around 91-93 mph
top speed 149 mph
Try this site in England for a couple links to UK suppliers:
www.jkwebdesign.co.uk/lexusclub.
There are some nice articles. The exhaust article shows some room for improvement to the tune of about 12 HP.
NOx is the cheapest way to go right now for the SC400.
I'ld go with coil overs for the suspension. $$$ though.

VQT, I think it's got all factory options except for the nakamichi. But I don't care as I want to custom install a stereo anyway.
Misura, thanks for the link. Couldn't find a lot of useful info though, most of the parts they're talink about are not available anymore (it seems).

I don't think it'll fit without any customizing. Guess I'll find out (car hasn't arrived in my country yet)
It's the Kenwood KVC1000. That's a standard DIN unit with detachable touchscreen plus external CD changer and tuner. You can also hook up a nav system. The plan is to fit the touchsreen in place of the stock stereo, and hide everything else. All functions are accessible through the touchsreen.
Anyone with some more input on the performance issues??
- HFI / ECU for a 92?
- Torque Converter
- Anything else?
Thanks

I don't know about performance for the car, but you better be thinking about changing the water pump, timing belt, and various seal while you're changing the timing belt. Also, change the transmission fluid, it's ATF type-II for SC400 from Toyota (Lexus). The trans. fluid need to change every 15K miles.
Do you have records of the car maintenance?
Check the power steering pump for leaks, if it is find out if replaceing the seal is sufficient of the pump need replacing. If it leak and you don't fix it, the alternator is below the pump, you be looking at replacing that too.
Check the play in all the pins of the brake caliper, especially the two top front one. Make sure all pins slide in/out easily, this will ensure the performance of the brake.
