Timing Belt Shaving
Some shaving of the timing belt is normal. You will see what I call "fuzz" inside the cover(s) that fit over the belt. That belt spins so many times in the course of its' lifetime.
You forgot to mention how many miles this particular belt has on it, but if it is close to 90,000 miles please plan on replacing it on time. I do mine right at 90,000 miles, although there uis generally some "fudge factor" built in...I just don't know how MUCH! I will say that the higher the engine rpms are spun, the more wear you should expect. The outer part of the belt will start to look shiny.
IF you see CHUNKS missing INSIDE the belt, then change it immediately.
Good luck!

sexycoupe -- i know exactly what you are talkin about I'm a Lexus tech in Md and see it all the time, 2 possible cause 1 being loose/worn bearing on the idler pulley or tensioner pulley or 2 over torque the screws too the cover(most common) the should only be tightened snug with a LIGHT tweek at the end or you start to flex the rear thin metal cover that the front cover attaches to...good luck
