I did that when I had my car down for a while, degreased and scrubbed the hell out of the inside of my throttle body, y-plenum, and upper intake manifold. Took forever but it looked a lot better in there!

I hade a EGR code in my car. I was going to do a tune-up so why not clean out the EGR valve and see if that fixes the problem. EGR was clean, no blockage nothing. I figured it was a VSV valve. Went to clean out the throttle body, found that where the EGR gases are plumed in the throttle body was completely stopped up. Let it soak over night and cleaned it again. Re-assembled the car (with new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, vc gaskets and dist o-ring). Cleared the code and done. 10K and no light.
