Default new turbo engine or rebuild ????

Hi, im new here, i drive a red 94 3000gt sl, I like it but i hate how slow it is and the fact its fwd so i am looking for something alot faster.

Im new the toyota/supra/scx00/soarer platform and had some questions.
If i bought a sc300 i would defenatly turbo it right off the bat but im wondering which would be more cost effective. Im thinking about swaping out the engine an put in a supra TT engine in, but i though of something else.

Could i take the engine thats already in the car, rebuild and lower the compression and then buy a turbo kit for it?
Im thinking this would be much better because if i buy a supraTT engine its going to have 40k-60k miles on it, while the rebuild will have 0 and i already would have the engine avalible. (btw in case your wondering i would also be purchasing a 6 speed tranny)

Plus, if i rebuilt the engine myself and could upgrade and reinforce some parts for more horspower. What do you guys think?

I'd go the NA-T route, with the money you'd spend on a GTE swap you could be way ahead of the game with a turbo kit.

so are you saying just swap the internals and turbo, because i belive the stock internals and high compession and wont be able to take much boost

The GE has the same block casting, crank, and rods as the twin turbo motor. How much boost are you planning on running? The stock motor has 10:1 compression and makes for good spool and a nice powerband if you aren't trying to go huge with things.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the GE, it's a lot stronger motor than most people want to believe.

I would go NA/T with a good fuel setup and a rebuild, rather than swapping it out for a TT...

You should purchase the 5-seed SC300 unless you prefer auto.
Run the compression check, NA-T the engine, run it until it blows.
Straight 6 would surprise you if you are coming from v6 config.

In this way, you can learn about your SC before spending more $$.

Why would you want to rebuild a running engine?

After blowing it up, you can either rebuild GE or do a GTE & x-mission swap if you want the BIG time HP!:

I think GE can take up to about 500 WHP.
Your x-mission would give out before your GE engine would...

Ah i see. I come fomr the 3/s ( 3000gt/stealth) world, where if you turbocharge the na v6 engine you can only push out like 6-8psi boost and about 300hp.

My power goals for the sc300 are around 400-500bhp, so you think going na-t would be fine then?

I think so as long as your engine compression is good and all your supporting system are working (fuel pump, injectors, spark plugs, hoses, cooling, etc).

I think we have a few Na-T guys with high HPs.

Try around 700whp and you'll be a lot closer DaveH's junkyard block with 220k miles on it went mid 9s. Good advice tho

Not to mention entire GE engines go pretty cheaply so it's not a big deal to have a spare sitting in your garage in case something happens.
