Default OD light, and Insane Rough Idle Please help.

If you guys can help this would be nice because i feel like i'm screwed.

Basically here is the rundown.

The car has 267,000 miles on it.

It's a 1992 SC400

I know it was a bad idea to buy it but it's too late now.

Here is the problem.

Car starts fine, revs up nice in park. Whenever i put it into gear though, it runs VERY rough. Smooth here and there, but every now and then it will vibrate heavily. I mean VERY heavy. Almost feels like a small earthquake in the car. It will come on and off, for different lenghts of time.

When i actually drive the car it runs very rough and is very stubborn about going any faster than 35 mph. Not only that, but when i floor the gas when the car is doing that, it seems like it almost doesn't respond. Small revving sounds, but to no avail.

However, seemingly out of nowhere, the car will suddenly work PERFECTLY fine and shift perfect and run perfect. Then it gets back into that mode where it doesn't want to go fast again.

The Overdrive light blinks when the car is being stubborn. It doesn't blink too much, but enough.

I am guessing that it is the transmission, but hoping that it is simply some type of sensor.

When parallell parking the car does the earthquake thing again.

I'm confused, i figured that if it was the transmission itself it wouldn't have it's spouts of running perfectly fine.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting a diagnostics test but don't want to have the mechanic just tell me that something is wrong with the car when it's simply a 100 dollar fix.

Get new...
Motor mounts
Trans mounts
Plugs, Wires, Caps and Rotors
PCV Valve
Airfilter

Have the trans-fluid flushed, screen cleaned
Replace Rear diff fluid.
Grease all fittings

~Find a mechanic who will Seafoam the entire engine.
~Check all your vacuum lines, replace any that look bad.
~Check every plug to every sensor, disconnect and clean connections.

I would look into some of the things if not all of the things that neurocity posted. Thats good starting point. That car should still have way more life in-it then that. Do a tune-up and see what happens. It just needs some TLC.

Thank you for this information, i'll do all of those things anyways because of the mileage on the vehicle.
