SC owners' opinions on IS300 NA performance upgrades?
I am constantly going back and forth between very mildly modding my 98 SC300 for more fun driving and aggressively increasing the power through FI. However, I've noticed a rather large following for NA upgrades with the IS300 community.
With the following mods, they've managed to reach upwards of 220+rwhp:
-JoeZ intake pipe and aftermarket filter (It's just a pipe and it makes no sense!)
-Headers/y-pipe (Pretty decent gains from feedback in the Supra and IS community)
-Exhaust (Well, either way you gotta have it)
-S-AFC/Cam gear tuning (Tuning of any kind is beneficial.)
After all this reading, I'm still scratching my head. So I'm curious what your guys' opinions of all this is. I'm less willing to pour thousands of dollars into my 9 year old car's motor and would rather have something just fun, reliable and looks good. Afterall, my motor swap on my old car left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth.
Or should I just leave the engine alone?

I did damn near everything except FI to my IS300 and it was still slow. Fun, but slow. I rode in a few boosted Is300's and though they were pretty "quick" I still didn't like the rubber band effect. I like instant power.
I guess I prefer V-8's. My Sc400's are also pretty slow, but at least they have torque out the wazoo compared to a VVTI 2JZ-GE.
My Benz has 295tq and the V-8 feels a lot more stout, I think it'll do me for a bit, but nothing N/A is going to be astounding aside of an exotic.

I had swapped a 3S-GTE into my Celica a few years back. In the 6 months following the swap, I think I actually got to appreciate the boost for 2 days. Every other day, it was an oil leak here, a boost leak there, transmission issues, changing spark plugs every week and no air conditioning in Florida. $6,000 later, the way I'm looking at it, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...especially when it involves me dumping atleast $4k when it's all said and done into a 9 year old car. But...don't get me wrong, I haven't thrown out the idea of a 1J yet. 0-60 in 7.5+ sec right now? Yuck.
Oh and, just curious...granted it would be a very custom setup, wouldn't an IS 300 supercharger work with my VVT-i motor? Everything I find in a search for NA-T kits, swaps, etc. have been for 97 and under SCs. Seems I screwed myself.
