For the 1J all you do is extend the harness everything else is plug and play but I never really looked into the 2J GTE so that might be easier.

dont forget if you also decide to have a front mount intercooler or just use the stock one that will come with the 2j engine.

i've got a jspec engine and runs really well as a daily driven car. it's basically bone stock tt with some little upgrades but though i can hit 1.2bar daily if i want to. i would assume i'm putting at least 330rwhp or more right now but again, i wouldn't know cuz i have not gotten into dyno yet. i would do the 2jzgte swap if you afford it. you can always go single later if you want more power. your stock tranny will not handle the stock hp on the tt engine, i thinkg, so just use the auto tranny that comes with it when you buy.

There is also the route I went, 1JZ btm end with my rebuilt 2JZ-GE head. The only real problem was remaking the water neck from the head to the block to allow for the 1" difference in height. So far it runs fine, its a little laggier than when I had the 2JZ but still plenty of power. My reason for doing this was 1JZ's are so cheap, especially when they are a bare longblock, complete low mileage motor for under 600 bucks shipped. I am going to build one of my 2JZ's now and don't have to be in a rush to do it.

I had tons of people tell me it wouldn't work or that it was a horrible swap but it really has been a good cheap setup that was for the most part easy. My biggest problem was with it not wanting to start when it was warm and it turns out this is because with the 1" drop in height it put the dist to close to the exhaust and was overheating the distributor, a pai to figure out but its all good now.

This has been thoroughly covered throughout the forum... I suggest you use the search function. The 2jz makes a great swap, and requires little in the way of serious mechanical expertise, most everything is bolt-on, with the obvious issues of wiring cross-references for the different harness and ECU, all info readily available. Good luck!

I'm working on my NA-T right now and it come out about 2,000 and very reliable i think. My car has 170k already worse comes to worse i just have to rebuild block and head get new rod piston and so on. all that probably run another 2k but will give me over 500whp easily. If you say this is your daily drive i would say go with NA-T or get 6spd 2jz but get it legal in california and stay away for police is pain in the ***.

Default so whats the verdict?

Which of the 3 motors is the most cost efficient way to obtain 400-450whp?
1jz?
2jz-gte (manual or auto)??
2jz-ge with 6speed???
400-450whp is my hp goal, so whch way is the best way for me to achieve my goal? I was told by a local shop that the 2JZ-GTE is to expensive and wouldnt be my best route to go unless I was trying to get more than 500-600whp, but i see that alot of you guys are using the 1jz motor, so that raises the querstion, Which is the most Cost Efficient way to get these numbers??
And by the way the shop quoted me around $7500 to do the 2JZ-GTE swap, which included motor and labor (w new water pump and fuel pump, im pretty sure those were included) Thank You For Your Help

The 2JZ-GTE would be the best choice but as you mentioned cost efficient. I would go with a 1JZ setup. 400 HP is easily attainable on that. I would also use the Soarer R154 Tranny or V160 and just to keep the torque I would go with a 3.0 GE/GTE Short Block. Another option would be na-t you can definately reach that 400-450HP goal easily that way too. It's a toss up.

Yeah that's what I though too. After 2-3weeks of driving it and being able to handle that power, I wanted more. So here in the next month or so I will be at around 400rwhp. Then I gotta start worrying about my transmission. I want a v160 soooo bad.....but damn so much money.
