Unhappy Check engine and trac light

Hey guys,

I just got this 93 SC400 a couple weeks ago. The check engine light and the trac light came on roughly at the same time. They are not always on. However, I took the car in for emissions today and it didn't pass. I took it to the dealership and they said both main o2 sensors were bad. I have two questions:

1. Will the replacement of the 2 o2 sensors fix the probelms associated with the two lights that come?

2. Would that also lower the HC and CO levels that make my car not pass emissions?

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Thanks for your help.

Check engine and trac light... That happen to me once after I had my oil changed!!! I had them inspect the car and it was 2 1/2 qt. low on oil... Filled it up and the light went out...

Now I have no idea about the inspection problem.. Could be cats, O2 sensors, bad mufflers, etc... Get a tune up, oil change inspect exhaust system and try again....

Good luck

Thats funny you mention the oil. I have two bad leaks. One from the rear main seal and the other from the trans pan. I know I am low on oil. Maybe that will solve the 2 lights?

When those lights came on, did your trac control work? Mine doesn't.

Thanks for the reply.

I've had the same problem with the lights turning on and off. I never got it checked cause the car runs fine and i read a lot about the engine light turning on with the SC.

Traction Control shuts off if your check engine light is on. So if ur light is on becareful in the rain. I've had a few close encounters.

Whosdaddy, I did not get a chance to see if it worked or not. I took it straight back to the shop.

Was it low on oil or not?

Default Yes

Yes it was low on oil but that didn't change anything. I ordered two O2 sensors today. I hope that helps. I will post back when I get them.

How much did you paid for the main O2 sensors? changed it yourself buy the O2 tool from an auto parts store and you're good to go.

Smile trouble lights are gone

I replaced both main o2 senors and the lights went away. The car actual drives better and passed emissions.

I'm happy!

Did you changed the O2 yourself? It wasn't that difficult to change the O2 sensors.

Change all fluid including trans. fluid Type T-IV. Got my white SC400 in Feb. change everything except the trans. fluid. Car began to develop shake like run over rumble strips. Changed the trans. fluid last week. car run a lot better now.

I paid $20 for a 4 liter can of trans. type T-IV from Carson Toyota.
