Default 1jz automatic?

How much power can a 1jz automatic hold and how does it shift compared to the SC400 auto? By that I mean sloopy shifts(Luxury shifts) does it hold High rpms without shifting or it better to try to do a 1jz swap with a W58? I am looking for 400rwhp out of the 1jz and need to know how the tranny holds? Thanks

This is a big question for us in the UK at the moment. We know one guy who is running 480 bhp with some minor tranny mods and the general consensus seems to be that the box should be good for around 500bhp. That's really only speculation though.

One problem with the "luxury shifts" is that the ignition retards between changes. This isn't noticable at stock power levels but becomes a problem as you get more power as the system just farts and takes half a second to change when under power.

Check out Jared's mods on Supraforums. These seem to be working well on the cars that have them over here.
