Default Pic under valve covers after 100k

These are pics of my cams after 100k miles. Took these pics while changing my valve cover gaskets. Used synthetic starting around 30k miles. Started AutoRx to see if it will remedy the slight lifter/ticking noise I get at WOT. Other than that, engine purrrs.

Looks good.... anyone know how long the headgaskets in SC400s last, and how much it costs to replace them?

Just found out the maker of AutoRx is a Lexus SC300 fanatic. Just thought I'd share.

Wow, how cool is that! I just started my 2nd application on my SC300 over the weekend (196k miles). On the first application, I went from leaking 1 quart every 1000 miles, to almost no loss of oil @ 2000 miles.

Good to know Frank had me in mind

Well, I'm now at over 800 miles on the first clean cycle. I started putting on a lot of miles, then the price of gas shot up like Katrina hit again, so it's slowed down a bit. ($60+ for a complete fill up sucks a$$). Anyway, I've experienced infrequent minor rough idles. The ticking noise has dimished at WOT, but still there. Not a drop of oil consumption, although its only 800 miles, so who knows. One thing I have noticed is how much more smoothly the engine revs. The RPMs have been all over the dial . The engine just seems more responsive and smoother lately. On top of that, I've seriously noticed an mpg improvement. This is what shocks me the most. My driving habits have not changed. I do a lot more driving, but city:highway remains consistant. Compared to the same period last year, the improvement is real (this is including the fact that I did a major tune up of the car last summer). A total of 3.5 mpg improvement from last year (2 mpg improvement after tuneup). Going from a consistant 15mpg in 2005 to 18.5mpg now... I really wasn't expecting anything noticeable until maybe the rinse phase or the 2nd clean phase. Impressive. I drive it harder now and better economy? Best of both worlds. We'll see if this is an anomoly or real world improvements.

Wow, old thread. Sorry I didn't keep this process updated. I ended up doing 2 clean and rinse cycles with some synthetic during the winter of 06-07 in between. The SC300 has become a weekend driver and I'm happy to say the engine purrs. I do not have the lifter noise anymore and I have not had to replace any oil and it has been since November of 07 and slightly over 4k miles. The idle has remained steady since the initial cycle. Must admit I am going through some suspension issues, but my daily driver is my FJ Cruiser so I have some time to baby my SC. The oil after the second clean cycle was dark but not as grainy as the first clean cycle. The rinse was dark and grainy both times. My mpg has remained at around 18-19mpg with 60/40 city/highway driving. This has been a sustained improvement since my first rinse cycle as noted above. Over all, I am very happy with the AutoRx results.
