2jz-gte Engine Swap
I know people have been discussing this back and forth... but My question isn't about the engine. Its about the trasmission. I've looked on Ebay and seen that the 2jz-gte Engines come with Automatic trasmissions... Is this required to run properly or can I use the Stock 5 speed Lexus Trasmission?

The stock tranny can probably last if you are running stock boost but once you increase the boost, you are at a high risk of blowing the tranny. I think the stock w58 tranny can handle about 300hp safely not sure if it can handle more than that for longer periods of time.

i am running the stock 5spd tranny and it works fine. just update your clutch to a better one like clutcmasters or act and you'll be fine. dont be boosting or launching crazy or burning tires....hahhaa

Also, I remember reading of one person who blew his w58 at the 300rwhp level (www.supraforums.com), so it seems like a gamlbe in the end. If you're willing to run high power through your w58, I'd recommend having another transmission ready to replace it :-P .
just wanted that extra kick.

what a waste
pat i think were going to willow springs in a couple months if you do decide to race. just go easy on it. your tranny should hold fine.

I think the w-58 destruction number is a little higher than you are hearing so far. Lay off drag strip launches, drifting, and burn outs and you are going to be able to run closer to 400+ rwhp on that tranny given the use you describe. I am making high three hundreds at the wheel right now. Kevlar clutch. My use is freeway and road course. There are Supra N/A 5-speeds running single turbos pushing 500 hp, yeah, they are slightly less weight than our SC's
