Need specs on size of trans/motor/rear end drain bolts
Alright guys, I'm a DIY'er by nature so I've been researching building my own magnetic drain plugs. As some of you may know, Neodymium or "neo" magnets are much, much, much stronger than your normal ***** hold a post card on the fridge magnet. Problem is, normal grade neo stuff looses its magnetism at any temp over 176 f (80c).
I've researched out and found a very high temp grade neo magnet, Grade N38SH rated for 302 f (150c). Bad part is you can only find them in certian sizes. The ones I've found are 3/8" x 3/8" rods. I'm farily certain that this will fit in the drain bolt in the oil pan but what about the drain bolt in the trans/rear end? I'm postive the rear end won't get too warm for this guy, but what about the max oil temp in the motor? I have no idea what it is in the 1uz. Trans isn't such a big concern as I have a trans cooler wating around to go on if need be.
Any of you guys have the size info stashed away in your brain somewhere? I know the size of the bolt is 14mm on the oil pan and I'm getting conflicting info on the one for the trans, but I'm talking physical deminsion of the threaded area.
