Default OBD1 Conversion questions

I know supra guys who have done an NA->TT Swap, and had the car inspected by a referee, but has anyone doen this with an SC300. I just want to know what heartache was involved and if it was worth it in the long run. I would love to have a stree legal TT SC300. I have access to a US long block, but all the other equipment is coming from a JDM motor. Any replies are appreciated.

i believe in a thread on supra forums they said it needs to be registered as an "engine conversion" but otherwise as long as it will smog it will be legal.

That and it better be the usdm 2jz because of the egr, but I also read that thread and if I recall correctly, this only applies to states where there is no visual inspection? comebody clarify for me. Rscott, reply to my PM please .

it can be done legally in california as long as NO other modifications are present as ALL emissions related equipment is there. If your engine bay looks like a TT engine bay and you can pass the sniffer test i believe you can get it certified.

Default Bring your JDM up to US emissions and OK

There is no written restriction that the JDM can be swapped in. You just have to insure that the JDM has every emission control in place that would be on the USDM engine. The egr has to be drilled out, a little hairy because it is near oil and water passages. You've got to switch to the MAF of the USDM. Thing is, you probably want to go to USDM cams, injectors and twins turbos while this JDM is out and accessible. That means a USDM ecu. You'll probably want the bigger Supra radiator, you'll need a Supra fuel pump. While you are at it, you probably should run a BCC and an EBC into your cabin, leave it concealed and off for inspection. Also, you are realistically going to need to change the exhaust and the downpipe. Of course with ~350 to 400 hp on tap the Supra TT brake system makes one hell of a lot of sense to stop this missile of yours. Oh, yea, the tires are going up in smoke and you'll have serious wheel spin issues in the first two-three gears under hard accel, so you're looking at upgrading them as well, which you'll have to in order to clear those forementioned massive Supra brakes you now have.

Better to view this as a system than just an engine swap.

Default cost effective

would it just be better to just search for a usdm tt swap?? it seems like after all the work needed to make the jdm swap legal its would probably almost add up to a usdm swap??
